1.Unlike regular DTF hot melt powder, puff powder contains thermally expandable microspheres. After printing, secondary high-temperature treatment activates the microspheres inside the powder to expand upward, forming soft sponge-like raised patterns.

2. Standard Complete Operation Process

2.1 Design Tips (Common pitfalls for beginners)
Thick lines, bold fonts and large color blocks are recommended. Ultra-thin lines and tiny texts are not suggested, as they may blur due to thermal expansion.
For partial puff printing: separate puff areas and normal flat areas in layered files for selective powder application.
Apply proper ink coverage with sufficient white ink base to achieve fuller puff effect.
2.2 Printing & Powder Application
Print normally with standard DTF inks and transfer film. Keep the ink moist once printed.
Immediately spread DTF puff powder evenly to fully cover all printed areas, then shake off excess powder.
Tip: For mixed effects, apply puff powder on raised areas and regular hot melt powder on flat sections.
2.3 Drying & Curing
Set oven temperature at 110–120°C, dry for 3–4 minutes.
Important note: Only evaporate moisture during drying. Do not fully puff yet! Premature expansion will lead to insufficient puff height in the final pressing step.
2.4 Fabric Heat Pressing (Core Parameters)
Transfer temperature: 155–165°C, medium pressure, 10–15 seconds
Hot peel or cold peel according to your transfer film specification. The print remains flat after peeling.
Secondary heating for puff activation (Critical Step)
Option A (Heat press): Cover print with baking paper after peeling, 170–180°C for 8–12 seconds until patterns rise.
Option B (Tunnel oven): Pass through the oven at 175–185°C, ideal for mass production.
⚠️ Low temperature: insufficient puffing. Excessively high temperature: over-expanded brittle prints that collapse easily after washing.

4. Troubleshooting Common Issues

Low-quality puff powder; overlong secondary heating time. Switch to high-resilience eco-friendly puff powder and strictly control heating duration.
Puff collapse after repeated washing
Unstable expansion ratio and improper pressing parameters. Choose wash-resistant formulated puff materials.
Blurred print edges
Too thin graphic lines or excessive ink volume. Simplify designs and adjust ink output.
5. Practical Production Advice
Maintain workshop humidity between 40%–60%. Puff powder absorbs moisture easily. Seal tightly after opening and store with desiccants.
Always test temperature and puff height on sample fabric identical to bulk materials before mass production.
